We would like to point out that the main causes the decline in the net profit of more than 20 per cent for the 1st quarter of 1999 compared to the same period of the previous year are as follows :- 1.The continuing downward trend in purchasing power resulting from major crops fetching lower prices and other industries not picking up yet, except tourism, the masses tended to spend monies on essential and softdrinks are not one of them. 2.The unpredictable condition of the weather:as of January to March 1999 which was the peak of the hot season in the South there was heavy rain during this period throughout the 14 provinces. There were less out-door activities; people were mostly confined to homes, coupled with the unusually " cooler " weather that prevailed during the summer months; all these had resulted in less consumption of softdrinks. With the above mentioned reasons the sales volume of Haad Thip has declined about 23 % when compared to the same period of last year and resulted in a drop in net profit of more than 20 per cent even with the strick on-going expenditures control.
